How do you really feel? Listen to your Inner Voice.
July 15, 2011
At FRESHConnect, we are always scouring through media to find opportunities for our clients; and along the way, we often come across stories that inspire us. They teach us and move us in ways that help us grow on both a business and personal level.
If you haven’t already read it, the latest issue of Oprah Magazine published an article which shares with us five stories of women whose hunches changed – or saved – their lives.
When you are facing a decision, do you listen to the logical, socially-conditioned voice? The rational voice that resonates with years of drilling from authority figures in your life? The safe voice that meets with the expectations of others? Or…
Do you listen to the seemingly nonsensical voice that reaches you on a primordial level? A gut feeling that is a bit scary, yet somehow appealing?
It takes courage to go the second route. It takes trust and opening yourself to unknown consequences. When we face options and decisions, our trained and habitual approach is to deliberate them rationally.
But what if we instead “listened” to how each choice makes our body feel? Does it make you feel anxious and fidgety? Or does it fill you with a pleasant and peaceful feeling? As you will have read in the stories above, going with that inner voice, that intuition, can be life-changing.
Throughout the course of our professional and personal lives, we encounter many crossroads when we seek within ourselves for advice. So the next time you have to make that critical business decision, or that significant life choice, which voice are you going to listen to?
As the lovable Dr. Seuss says, “You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who’ll decide where to go…”
